Visitors Guide to Dubai
Residency, Visas and Passports
Passports are required when travelling to Dubai and a visitor visa may also be required, depending on the country of origin. Many nationalities are able to obtain a visa upon entry to the country, although when visiting for residential purposes, a resident’s visa will need to be obtained prior to travelling. When purchasing a property for permanent use, a lawyer or embassy will be able to assist with obtaining the required residential visa. Residency is often valid for approximately 3 years and can be renewed. When entering the country, passports should have a minimum validity of 3 months from the date of entry.

Local Transport
A metro system is currently being constructed and is expected to begin operating in 2009 with two lines and a proposal for two additional lines in the future. The metro system will also connect with the new international airport, creating greater convenience for locals and visitors.

While cars are the most popular form of transport, Dubai does offer an extensive bus system with approximately 60 routes. There are also plans to create inter-emirate routes connecting Dubai and Ajman, creating greater travelling options for visitors not wishing to drive.
